ISLAMABAD: The government has drawn up a plan to provide 100,000 electric bikes across Pakistan within 90 days to promote the use of electric two-wheelers, with a proposed subsidy of Rs80,000 for each buyer under consideration.

The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has invited applications from companies for the manufacturing and supply of electric bikes under the initiative.

According to the plan, the bikes will be supplied in 200 batches, with each batch comprising 500 units. Companies will be selected through a competitive bidding process, with a focus on promoting the local electric vehicle industry.

Interested companies can submit their applications through the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority’s (PPRA) e-portal by 11am on November 3, 2026.

Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs5,000 along with their submissions.

The EDB has clarified that companies already declared eligible for the initiative do not need to submit fresh applications.

The proposed Rs80,000 subsidy remains under consideration, and further details regarding its implementation have not been provided in the announcement.
