DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Six militants were killed and two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred during an intelligence-based operation in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched the operation on the basis of intelligence reports. An intense exchange of fire took place during the engagement, resulting in the deaths of six militants described by the military as Indian-sponsored Khawarij.
Weapons and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants, the statement said.
The ISPR identified the martyred soldiers as Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, from Gujrat, and Sepoy Taseer Ahmed, 30, from Talagang.
According to the military, the militants were involved in multiple terrorist activities and the killing of innocent civilians. Security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue operations against terrorism, the statement added.
The ISPR said the sacrifices of the soldiers strengthened the nation’s resolve to protect its people and reaffirmed the security forces’ commitment to eliminating foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
