PESHAWAR: The elders of Tappa Wanda Garhi in Wamur Qamber Khel, Bara, District Khyber, have expressed strong disappointment with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for ignoring their area in development projects and demanded Chief Minister to grant them share in his developmental funds.
The elders said they were disappointed by both Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and local MPA Abdul Ghani Afridi for failing to include their area in ongoing development work. Speaking to the media during a local jirga, the elders of Wanda Garhi said that district Khyber are receiving funds for roads, schools, hospitals, and water supply schemes, Wanda Garhi has been completely ignored.
Despite multiple meetings with elected representatives, no practical steps have been taken to resolve local issues. The area is still deprived of clean drinking water, proper health facilities, and schools. Roads are in poor condition and become impassable during rains.
The elders said “We have voted in every election and supported every government, but in return we have only received promises.” The jirga urged Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and MPA Abdul Ghani Afridi to personally visit Wanda Garhi Qambar Khel and assess the problems on the ground.
The elders warned that if no concrete steps were taken within 15 days, they will launch protest demonstrations and sit-ins. The government has allocated special development funds for the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However, locals complain that the distribution of funds is not transparent and some areas continue to be neglected. Wanda Garhi in Bara is considered a backward area where many villages still lack electricity, gas, and paved roads.
