KHYBER: The condition of government schools in Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi’s home district has raised questions over the performance of the Elementary Education Department, as the only Government Girls’ Primary School in Malik Umro Killi, located in the remote area of Shainpokh in Loey Shalman tehsil of Landi Kotal, is suffering from severe neglect.

According to local sources, the school building is in a dilapidated state and lacks basic facilities, including electricity, clean drinking water, and other essentials. In extreme heat, hundreds of female students are forced to study without fans or proper lighting. The biggest issue is the acute shortage of teaching staff.

Despite having hundreds of students enrolled, only one female teacher has been posted at the school. This severe shortage has badly affected the quality of education and put the future of the students at risk.

Local elders and residents have expressed serious concern over the situation. They said this is the only government school for girls in the far-flung area, and due to the lack of facilities, many parents are reluctant to send their daughters to school.

Community leaders have urged the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Education Department, and the district administration to take immediate action and upgrade the school from primary to middle level.

They also demanded immediate repair and renovation of the building and classrooms; provision of electricity, water, and other basic facilities; and an increase in teaching staff to ensure a better learning environment for the students. Residents warned that if the government does not act promptly, hundreds of girls will be deprived of their basic right to education.
