The district administration of Nowshera has taken action against illegal gold mining in Mama Khel, Kahi and Nizampur areas of Nizampur under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir.
During the operation, 06 actuators and 07 iron filters were destroyed and disabled on the spot while 01 generator and 02 dewatering pumps were seized and taken into government custody.
According to the district administration, about 450 grams of raw gold was also recovered and seized from the mining site during the operation. The recovered gold will be deposited in the state treasury after legal proceedings. Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir directed the staff present on the spot to make a detailed inventory of the recovered minerals and seized goods to maintain transparency.
According to local sources, illegal gold mining has been going on in the hilly areas of Nizampur for a long time. The illegal mining mafia was cutting down the mountains with heavy machinery and extracting gold while using chemicals, which was also causing serious damage to the environment.
Several workers fled the scene while some machinery operators were taken into custody and are being questioned. Deputy Commissioner Gohar Zaman Wazir told media that strict legal action would be taken against the elements involved in illegal mining. He said that government resources and natural minerals are national property and no compromise will be made on their protection. He added that continuous operations against illegal mining would be continued across the district in collaboration with the minerals department and police. has been called.
According to preliminary estimates, 450 grams of raw gold was worth million of rupees. The district administration appreciated the action of the Deputy Commissioner and said that illegal mining was destroying the mountains of the area and polluting the groundwater.
He demanded that such actions be taken on a permanent basis to preserve national resources. The Deputy Commissioner clarified that only legally licensed companies can extract minerals and no one involved in illegal activities will be spared.
