ISLAMABAD: Chilly weather truly impacts smartphone batteries leading them to discharge quicker, than normal.

Specialists explain that the occurrence resembles what takes place with electric vehicle batteries during winter. The cause is found within the battery itself.

The lithium-ion battery genre, the marketplace’s most commonplace for available cellular phones, is attached to the cathode of the battery’s initial electrode. This ion movement generates the energy required to operate your phone.

Nonetheless, under certain conditions, this chemical reaction decelerates.

At‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ low temperatures, the movement of lithium ions is slowed, thus their interaction with the electrodes is limited. As a result, the battery is technically less powerful and therefore your phone’s battery will run out ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌faster.

In cold conditions, the ions travel at such a slow pace that the phone might abruptly turn off despite showing a high battery level.

Experts suggest that the optimal temperature span for smartphone battery operation lies between 18°C and 26°C whereas the charging temperature falls between 1°C and 45°C. Temperatures, beyond these limits may impair battery performance and freezing temperatures might cause battery damage.

As winter arrives, users are advised to keep their phones warm for example, inside pockets rather than exposed bags to help maintain battery life.

Pakistan develops revolutionary secure mobile for government use

Pakistan has developed its very first secure mobile phone which will be able to defend the user from data stealing and hacking of the device.

The phone is a result of a pilot project conducted by the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) and has been specially designed for government officials. The device’s hardware and software have both been developed locally in Pakistan.

Officials said that the phone does not have access to the internet and runs on a pre-installed operating system. It thus lowers the chance of hacking to a great extent.

They also said that every app on the phone is developed locally and the device will work with SIM cards from any Pakistan-based telecom operator.

NTC officials mentioned that the device does not have any backup option so that if it is stolen or there is a security breach, no one will be able to get the data from the device.

Moreover, they said that any conversation done using this phone cannot be listened to or recorded by anyone, thus, making sure that all secret communications in government departments are safe.

This invention places Pakistan on the path to achieving independence in terms of digital sovereignty and ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌cybersecurity.
