PESHAWAR: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar has dismissed 13 police personnel over complaints and allegations of corruption.
According to sources, all 13 dismissed personnel belonged to the Khyber Police and had been posted at various checkpoints, including Landi Kotal and Torkham.
The action was taken following complaints and allegations of corruption against the officials. Authorities moved against the personnel as part of measures to curb corruption within the police department.
The CCPO Peshawar has ordered strict action against personnel accused of involvement in corrupt practices, reaffirming efforts to strengthen accountability within the force.
The dismissals come amid continued efforts to address complaints of misconduct and corruption among police personnel serving at different posts in the region.
Police neutralizes another criminal gang in Peshawar
Earlier, two most-wanted members of a notorious gang were killed in a police encounter in Bhana Mari area of Peshawar.
According to police, the deceased were identified as Shakir and Usman, who were wanted in 13 serious cases. Police said the accused were wanted for robbery, dacoity, murder, attempted murder and attacks on police.
Police said the accused had looted Rs 17.8 million from a money exchanger on Civil Quarter Road. Police received information about the presence of the accused in Ghazi Baba Lara graveyard. When police reached the spot, the accused opened fire, police said.
Both were killed in retaliatory firing, police added. Police recovered Rs 6.8 million in looted cash from the possession of the killed accused. Police also recovered one Kalashnikov, one pistol and a motorcycle from them.
Peshawar Capital City Police are targeting most-wanted criminals. In the last 3 months, over 15 encounters have been reported in Peshawar where wanted dacoits involved in Hawala/Hundi and Saraf robberies were killed or arrested.
Police said 68 lakh recovered is part of the 1.78 crore looted money. Further investigation is underway to trace their other accomplices and recover the remaining amount.
