A team of engineering students in Utah, USA has built an experimental vehicle capable of travelling around 912 kilometers on just one liter of fuel.

The vehicle, called Super-mileage, was developed by students at Brigham Young University for the annual Shell Eco-Marathon, a competition focused on covering the greatest distance with the least fuel consumption.

Built purely for efficiency, the car has a lightweight carbon-fiber body and weighs just 49 kilograms. It also has a tiny 30ml fuel tank and a single seat designed for a driver who is roughly 163cm or shorter.

The students said the vehicle is so efficient that one full US gallon of fuel would, in theory, be enough to cover the distance from Utah to New York. However, the car is far from practical for everyday use.

Its top speed is only around 37 kilometers per hour, and it needs to be refueled after roughly every 32 kilometers. It is also built with minimal features and severe size limitations, making it unsuitable for commercial production.

While electric vehicles continue to gain popularity as cleaner transport options, projects like this show how far fuel efficiency can be pushed in experimental settings when comfort, speed, and practicality are removed from the equation.
