Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has unveiled its most affordable electric car in Japan, introducing the compact Racco as it seeks to strengthen its presence in one of the world’s most competitive automotive markets.
According to international media reports, BYD Auto Japan announced that the Racco will be priced below 2 million Japanese yen (approximately $12,210) after government subsidies, making it the company’s least expensive model in the country.
BYD Auto Japan’s Chief Executive Officer Atsuki Tofukuji told reporters that the new model has been developed by the firm to take on the challenge in the popular kei car category of vehicles.
The company claimed that the Racco can run at least 210 kilometers (130 miles) per charge in one go with an emphasis on affordability and long-lasting driving distance for city drivers.
According to analysts, the Racco would be competing with Nissan Sakura, the top-selling electric vehicle in the country.
