PESHAWAR: A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) official was martyred on Tuesday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded while he was attempting to neutralize it in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar.
According to police, the martyred official, identified as Khaista Rahman, was engaged in defusing the IED when the explosive device suddenly detonated, leaving him critically injured. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Following the incident, a heavy police contingent reached the site and cordoned off the area. Authorities began collecting evidence and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blast.
Officials said a search operation was also underway in the area to eliminate any possible threats. Investigations are continuing to determine the nature of the explosion and identify those responsible.
