ISLAMABAD: Questions have been raised over the authenticity of images circulating on social media platforms that allegedly use artificial intelligence (AI) or digital manipulation to create the impression of violence by law enforcement agencies against civilians.
According to sources, several images shared on social media pages linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) have drawn scrutiny from users and observers, who questioned their authenticity and original sources.
Some of the images were presented as being connected to recent events, but doubts emerged after inconsistencies were identified in the visuals and the claims attached to them.
One widely circulated image showed several individuals lying on the ground with claims suggesting they had been injured by gunfire. However, later images and videos appeared to show some of the same individuals standing, walking, and moving alongside police personnel, raising questions about the accuracy of the initial claims.
Observers said the conflicting visuals have increased concerns over the spread of unverified content on social media.
Another image showing an armed individual has also come under discussion, with some users suggesting it may have been created or altered using AI tools or digital editing. Analysts pointed to unusual details in the image, including hand structure, finger positioning, and the way the weapon appeared to be held, which can be indicators of AI-generated visuals.
Digital media experts have urged users to verify the source and authenticity of images and videos before sharing them, warning that the increasing use of AI technology has made misinformation and manipulated content more difficult to identify.
