MUZAFFARABAD: A core committee member of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), Anjum Zaman Awan, has announced his disassociation from the organization.
In a video message, Awan rejected the committee’s alleged agenda and urged young people to return to constructive and positive political engagement. He claimed that certain elements were attempting to mislead youth through slogans of autonomy and separation, alleging that such narratives were being promoted by forces hostile to Pakistan.
Awan said that the committee’s original peaceful movement had been diverted from its stated objectives, resulting in actions that encouraged law breaking and negatively affected the future of young participants.
“I completely disassociate myself from the destructive politics of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee,” he said, urging citizens not to become part of any group that, in his view, carries an anti-Pakistan agenda.
He further appealed to young people to avoid involvement in activities that could harm social stability and national unity.
Awan’s announcement comes after another former core committee member, Amjad Ali Khan, had also publicly distanced himself from the organization.
Political commentators said Awan’s statement highlights growing differences within the group and reflects increasing criticism of its direction and activities. They noted that his remarks included a rejection of narratives targeting Pakistan and its institutions.
The Joint Awami Action Committee has faced scrutiny in recent months, with authorities and critics raising concerns over its activities and public messaging.
