NEW YORK: A Bank of America vice president was killed in a knife attack in New York’s busy Times Square, according to US media reports.

A 49-year-old woman reportedly attacked two passersby with knives in the crowded area.

According to police sources, the assailant refused to give up her weapons for nearly four minutes, during which she advanced towards the officers carrying two knives, which led the police to shoot her. She died in the scene.

New York’s mayor and its police commissioner stated that there seemed to be no terrorist link whatsoever with the incident, and that it appeared to be an unexpected, singular occurrence.

Details of the stabbing are currently under investigation.
