RAWALAKOT: One person was killed in an exchange of fire after an armed man opened fire at a Rangers checkpoint in Rawalakot, the headquarters of Poonch district.
According to sources, the incident took place at a checkpoint in Rai Chowk, where a man identified as Faizan, son of Shan and a resident of Chak Damni, Rawalakot, was passing through the area.
Sources said an armed man carrying a .30-bore pistol suddenly opened fire on Rangers personnel deployed at the checkpoint.
The Rangers responded immediately, and the attacker was killed at the scene during the exchange of fire, according to the sources.
Following the incident, police and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
