MIRANSHAH (Shakir Khan): An alleged audio, circulating on Social Media, purportedly features Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) member of the provincial assembly (MPA) from North Waziristan, Naik Muhammad Khan, allegedly asking a contractor to pay him a share from the funds of ongoing public development projects.
According to sources, WhatsApp messages and audio are circulating on social media, in which the PTI MPA and former advisor to the KP assembly is allegedly asking the relevant contractor for a share (commission) in development projects.
The name of MPA Naik Muhammad Khan’s brother, Noor Muhammad Khan, who is a government class-four employee, has also emerged in the scandal. He is accused of openly demanding bribery from contractors who are executing the development projects in the MPA’s constituency.
Additionally, there are allegations that he threatened and abused these contractors for failing to meet his demands.
It is pertinent to mention that during his election campaign, MPA Naik Muhammad Khan made a firm promise to the public to eliminate corruption and promote transparency. As a result, there is widespread disappointment and concern among the public following the revelation of this scandal.
Responding to these allegations, Noor Muhammad Khan has denied all accusations and stated that the messages and audio clips circulating on social media are not from him.
MPA’s brother claimed that the audio is doctored and not associated with them and was made by his opponents using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to create a fake voice. Mr Noor Muhammad called this an organised conspiracy aimed at damaging their reputation.
This high-profile case has ignited a new controversy between technology and politics. On one side are serious allegations of corruption, while on the other is the defence against the misuse of modern technology, such as deep fakes and AI. However, the constituency voters are now calling for a transparent investigation into this matter.
