LODHRAN: A prisoner at District Jail Lodhran has approached the judiciary seeking similar special relief on medical grounds following the concession granted to former prime minister Imran Khan Niazi.

A prisoner lodged at District Jail Lodhran has approached the Lahore High Court’s Bahawalpur Bench seeking special relief on medical grounds, raising questions about whether the concessions granted in high-profile cases could open the door for similar requests from other inmates.

The petition has been filed by Muhammad Nadeem, who, according to the court order dated April 22, 2026, claimed through his counsel that he was suffering from a serious disability while being incarcerated.

Hearing Criminal Miscellaneous No. 1580-B of 2026, a division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Ijad Rafiq and Justice Sadiq Mahmud Khurram directed the Medical Officer of District Jail Lodhran to submit a detailed report on the prisoner’s current health condition.

The court specifically sought clarification on whether the petitioner was suffering from any disability and, if so, whether the condition was permanent or treatable. The Medical Officer was directed to submit the report to the court on or before the next date of hearing so that the bench could assess the prisoner’s plea for relief.

The development comes amid debate over special concessions sought on medical grounds by prisoners, particularly following relief granted to former prime minister Imran Khan. The Lodhran prisoner’s plea could now add another dimension to the discussion over whether similar medical grounds should be considered for other inmates.

The court order, however, does not yet grant any special concession to the prisoner. It only seeks a medical report to determine the nature and severity of his alleged disability before considering the request.

The case also raises a wider question: will more prisoners now approach courts seeking similar medical relief on the grounds of disability or serious illness?
