Pakistan has conveyed its final position to the Afghan Taliban delegation, making it clear that the continued patronage of terrorist groups by the Taliban regime is unacceptable at high-level talks held in Istanbul.
According to security sources during the discussions, the Pakistani delegation emphasised that concrete and verifiable steps must be taken by the Taliban authorities to eliminate cross-border terrorism originating from and operating within Afghanistan.
They noted that the Pakistani side urged Kabul to demonstrate sincerity through actionable measures rather than verbal assurances.
“On the contrary, the arguments presented by the Taliban delegation were illogical and contrary to ground realities,” the sources noted, adding that it appeared the Taliban were pursuing “someone else’s or another agenda.”
“This agenda is not in the interest of the stability of Afghanistan, Pakistan, or the wider region,” the sources warned.
Officials further stated that the progress of ongoing engagement and dialogue now depends on the Taliban’s positive and constructive response to Pakistan’s concerns.
