CALIFORNIA: The technology giant Meta has made a huge announcement regarding the water being off the scammers’ line.
The firm has also made the security alert on its platforms more proactive by starting to flag suspicious conversations in Facebook Messenger as a protection measure against potential threats.
Making use of the fake persona, scammers will create false online accounts and Facebook pages to impersonate customer service representatives of banks, airlines, and other businesses. They will, in fact, be going through the brand accounts, tracking user comments, and reaching out to people in a way that identifies them as ‘customer service agents’ who can help with providing assistance.
Besides that, tricksters can ring up their victims and ask them to share their screen first and then log into the service so as to steal the sensitive information. Even though they might not get the passwords outright, they are still able to collect the usernames and other information to try and reset the password, finally getting the verification codes that show up on the victim’s screen.
The tech firm also revealed that it would be sending out frequent notifications to consumers warning them not to engage in sharing screens with unknown folks as a precautionary measure against the scams.

Meta to invest $1.5 billion in new AI data centre in Texas
Social Media Company Meta said on Thursday it plans to invest more than $1.5 billion in a new data centre in the US state of Texas by 2028, as part of its expanding investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The company issued a statement that said the El Paso location will only use renewable energy sources and will have cutting-edge water recycling systems to reduce its environmental impact.
The building is part of Meta’s broader strategy to enhance processing power for its AI-powered products, including Facebook, Instagram, and the company’s ambitions for the metaverse. To meet the growing power demands of AI model training and immersive digital experiences, Meta has been rapidly building data centres across the United States.
Facebook, which is part of Meta, is going to make a significant change to its platform that may raise privacy issues among its users. From December 16, 2025, Meta will start using chats with its AI assistant on Facebook to make ads more personalised and recommend posts, reels, and groups of interest to users.
