ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Department of Meteorology reported the earthquake shock that hit the eastern border of Afghanistan, and its epicenter was situated at a depth of 234 km. The magnitude 5.3 quake occurred at 23:15 on late Tuesday night.
According to details, the earthquake tremor was felt in many parts of Pakistan, including the capital, Islamabad, and the cities of Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Chitral, Swat, Dir, and Malakand.
The coordinates indicated the location as 36.56°N 71.40°E. The shaking of the ground in some places was very strong that people ran out of their homes and it was fear-induced behavior as they admitted. At the same time, reports have come up stating no cause for the dislocations and also no injuries.
On account of the earthquake’s deep-seated origin, it affected a vast area but the probability of causing serious structural damage was minimal. The government has asked people to stay calm and observe the safety measures in case of aftershocks occurring.

Earlier on October 19, Earthquake tremors were felt in multiple cities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the federal capital, Islamabad.
The earthquake tremors were felt in Peshawar, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Chitral, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram and other areas of the province. However, there were no reports of damage received as yet.
According to sources, the quake also jolted several parts of Gilgit Baltistan.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck near Gahkuch in the Ghizer District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, on Friday, October 17th, 2025, at 5:15 PM local time, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
Preliminary data indicate that the quake occurred at a moderate depth of 51 km. The precise magnitude, epicentre, and depth of the earthquake may be revised in the coming hours or minutes as seismologists analyse the data and refine their calculations, or as additional reports from other agencies become available.
