ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said that the only way to establish peace and stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan is for Kabul to fully abide by the Doha Agreement, i.e., not allowing terrorists to take advantage of its territory.
During his appearance on the private TV channel, Talal remarked that Pakistan has undertaken “all possible diplomatic and military measures” to bring the tensions to a peaceful end through conversation, but unfortunately, no major breakthrough has been achieved so far.
He also mentioned that for the first time a third country has been involved in the negotiations aimed at convincing Afghanistan to keep the Doha Agreement. The agreement in question obliges the country to deny the use of its land by militant groups.
“The most constructive way forward under the Doha framework,” he said, “is for Afghanistan to completely close its territory to all groups using it for terrorism.”
He attributed the worsening situation to the lack of determination and sincerity on the part of the Afghan government, claiming that insurgents are being trained and supported in Afghanistan prior to being sent across the border into Pakistan.
In addition, he accused Afghanistan of having a closer relationship with India that has led it to tacitly accept Indian supremacy over Kashmir, which in his view, is a reflection of Pakistan’s longstanding fears about Indian interference.

Minister reiterated that Pakistan would not hesitate to do whatever is necessary to secure its borders and defend its people, even if that means carrying out a preemptive strike against the enemy forces lurking in the area.
