LAHORE: The Punjab government has extended the 30-day detention of Aleema Khanum, Uzma Khanum and Noreen Niazi, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, according to a statement made during a hearing at the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The development came during the hearing of a petition seeking the recovery and production of Imran Khan’s sisters before the court.

A lawyer representing the Punjab government informed the court that the detention of all three women had been extended for another period. According to the government’s counsel, the extension was granted on October 7.

Justice Abhar Gul Khan heard the petition filed by Shahrez, son of Aleema Khan, seeking the recovery of the three women. Ahd Khan, husband of Uzma Khanum, and Shahrez also appeared before the court.

Advocate Rana Mudassar Umar represented the petitioner and requested that the three women be recovered and produced before the court.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel said he was aware that the 26th and 27th Constitutional Amendments could pose legal hurdles in the matter.

The court observed that it could not issue an order beyond the scope of the petition.

Following consideration of the Home Secretary’s report, the Lahore High Court disposed of the petition.

The case concerns the continued detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters amid calls for their release and production before the court.
