The price of the Suzuki Alto could decrease under Pakistan’s proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026–31, which aims to revise the tax structure for conventional vehicles and new energy vehicles.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the final draft of the policy on Tuesday following months of consultations. The government will submit the draft to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approval before seeking clearance from the federal cabinet and introducing legislation in parliament.

Under the proposed policy, customs duty on conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) cars and SUVs is set to fall to 15% by 2031, with no additional or regulatory duties. The draft also proposes an ICE levy ranging from 2% to 10% to encourage automobile manufacturers to increase exports.

According to estimates published, the price of the Suzuki Alto could fall from Rs3.2 million to approximately Rs2.845 million in the first fiscal year of the proposed policy. This would represent an estimated reduction of Rs355,000.

However, the projected price cut is an estimate of the potential impact of the proposed tax changes and has not been officially announced by the government or the automaker.

The policy is still subject to IMF and federal cabinet approval, meaning its final provisions and their impact on vehicle prices may change before implementation.
