PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has prepared an action plan aimed at strengthening political and economic stability, improving public services and enhancing administrative performance, with 206 proposed measures across 27 departments.

According to reports, the proposed 100-to-180-day plan will focus on law and order, governance, public service delivery and economic stability across the province, including the merged districts.

The plan includes infrastructure rehabilitation, improvements in healthcare and education, youth employment initiatives and measures to strengthen urban facilities.

Infrastructure and Municipal Services

The proposed measures include the repair of around 1,150 major roads, installation of covers on 8,000 open manholes, improved sanitation at 4,000 locations and the reopening of approximately 150 blocked drainage channels. The restoration of 80 parks is also part of the plan.

Other proposals include beautification of markets and public buildings across districts, installation of solar-powered streetlights along major roads, and traffic improvements at 20 of Peshawar’s busiest intersections.

The plan also proposes completing unfinished sections of the Ring Road, improving the Grand Trunk Road, upgrading the Bannu bypass and restoring non-functional water supply schemes.

Healthcare Reforms

In the health sector, the government plans to improve facilities at basic health units and strengthen immunisation services.

Proposals include round-the-clock services at 250 health centres in selected areas, ensuring the availability of at least 80 per cent of essential medicines, and introducing digital monitoring of the attendance of doctors, nurses, support staff and other healthcare workers.

Education and Emergency Services

The proposed education measures include upgrading 1,500 schools and addressing furniture shortages affecting around 700,000 students.

The plan also envisages handing over underperforming schools to the private sector and reopening damaged or non-functional schools in the merged districts.

Expanding Rescue 1122 services in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is another proposed measure.

Youth Employment and Economic Opportunities

The action plan seeks to expand opportunities for young people through interest-free loans, technical training and skills programmes linked to employment.

Other proposals include establishing youth centres in government buildings, organising sports competitions and promoting entrepreneurship and research projects at universities.

Under the energy component, around 65,000 households, particularly those headed by widows and belonging to disadvantaged groups, are proposed to receive subsidised financial assistance for household solar systems.

Mining Safety and Digital Records

The plan also includes measures to improve safety and working conditions in the mining sector. These cover medical examinations and technical training for miners, digital record-keeping for mining operations, and the establishment of centres to respond to mining accidents in Kohat, Abbottabad and Buner.

Sources said several names were being considered for the initiative, including Mustahkam Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Stable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 180-Day Strategic Action Plan.

The proposals are intended to improve governance, strengthen public services and support economic stability across the province. The measures have been reported as proposals under the action plan; their implementation status and final approval were not specified in the available information.
