ISLAMABAD: New opportunities for business cooperation between Pakistan and Romania are emerging in the agriculture and dairy sectors after a Pakistani trade delegation visited Romania’s largest milk-producing farm near the capital, Bucharest.

The visit was organised by the Pakistan-Romania Business Council (PRBC) and focused on exploring potential partnerships, investment opportunities and cooperation between businesses in the two countries.

The delegation was led by Atif Farooqi, who also serves as Pakistan’s nominated honorary consul for Romania in Sindh, according to the PRBC.

During the visit, the Pakistani delegation received a briefing on the farm’s management, modern agricultural practices, livestock breeding and milk production system.

According to officials, the farm covers approximately 7,000 hectares and operates as a family-owned business. It grows its own grain and silage for livestock, while surplus agricultural produce is sold in the local market.

The farm has around 7,000 Holstein dairy cows, a breed known for its high milk production. It also raises fast-growing cattle for meat production.

Modern computerised systems are used to manage the farm’s operations, including livestock care, feeding, milk production and other activities.

The farm’s management informed the delegation that raw milk is transported daily in specialised tankers to a major dairy processing facility in Brasov, Romania. Plans are also underway to install a large biogas plant at the farm, which is expected to become operational soon.

The visit also provided an opportunity to explore potential areas of cooperation for Pakistani businesses. These include supplying trained workers to Romania’s agriculture and dairy sectors and exploring investment opportunities for Pakistani companies in the farm’s expansion plans.

The engagement is expected to help identify potential areas for business partnerships and strengthen economic cooperation between Pakistan and Romania.
