RAWALPINDI: Pakistan secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka after outclassing the visitors in the second match in Rawalpindi on Sunday.
After winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis elected to field first, inviting Pakistan to bat. The home side responded with an aggressive batting display, pushing the total beyond the 200-run mark.
Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan and young batter Maaz Sadaqat once again delivered impressive performances, building an 88-run partnership that put the hosts in a commanding position.
Farhan scored 73 off 44 deliveries before losing his wicket, providing Pakistan with a solid start. Meanwhile, Maaz Sadaqat continued his attacking approach and came close to a memorable century.
Sadaqat smashed 96 runs off just 51 balls, including seven sixes and six boundaries, producing the highest score of his career. He was dismissed off the final delivery while attempting to reach the three-figure mark with a six.
His explosive innings proved instrumental in helping Pakistan post a formidable total and maintain control of the match.
Fakhar Zaman contributed 22 runs, while Hasan Nawaz added 19 to strengthen Pakistan’s batting effort.
Speaking at the toss, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis confirmed three changes to his playing XI. Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan announced one change, with Salman Mirza replacing Razaullah.
Farhan said Pakistan were prepared for any outcome, noting that the toss was beyond their control. He also highlighted the importance of the powerplay in T20 cricket.
With the victory in the second T20I, Pakistan have taken a decisive 2-0 lead in the three-match series, leaving Sri Lanka with no chance of winning the series.
