Weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.57%, while the annual inflation rate reached 11.97%, as the price of a 20-kilogram bag of flour rose by up to Rs400 in a week, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The latest data showed that prices of 20 essential commodities increased during the week, while six items became cheaper and the prices of 25 commodities remained unchanged.

Flour prices rose by 5.69% during the week, followed by chicken at 4.93%, gram pulse at 3.99% and tomatoes at 2.40%. Petrol prices also increased by 2.40%, while masoor pulse, tea and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) became more expensive.

According to the PBS, the price of a 20kg flour bag reached around Rs3,400 in Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar.

In Rawalpindi, the price of a 20kg flour bag increased by Rs347 to Rs3,333, while in Sialkot it rose by Rs333 to Rs3,133.

In Sukkur, the price increased by Rs300 to Rs3,060, while in Hyderabad it went up by Rs200 to Rs3,200.

Flour prices in Quetta increased by Rs70 to Rs3,030 per 20kg bag, while in Multan the price rose by Rs66 to Rs2,866.

Meanwhile, the price of a 20kg flour bag remained unchanged at Rs2,300 in Lahore and Rs2,200 in Faisalabad.

The weekly report also showed that banana prices fell by 2.81%, while diesel became cheaper by 1.37%. Potato prices declined by 0.89% and sugar prices dropped by 0.37%.
