Awami National Party (ANP) President Aimal Wali Khan has opposed the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying the province cannot be allowed to remain a political laboratory for further experiments.

In a statement, Aimal Wali Khan said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government had failed on all fronts over the past two and a half years, adding that the responsibility for the prevailing situation rested with both the provincial government and those who brought it to power.

He said the PTI government had failed to address public issues and had instead kept the province in a state of uncertainty and political turmoil. He also alleged that corruption had flourished during its tenure.

The ANP president further accused the provincial government of lacking seriousness in dealing with terrorism. He said its conduct had created the impression that its sympathies lay with terrorists rather than the interests of the people, the province and the country.

Aimal Wali Khan alleged that, instead of standing by police personnel and members of the public who had made sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, the government had directly or indirectly facilitated terrorists.

He also claimed that political parties standing with the public and the law had been targeted through propaganda linked to terrorism and fifth-generation warfare, while efforts had been made to isolate them politically.

The ANP chief said the ongoing crisis stemmed from a power struggle between PTI and those who had brought the party to power. He maintained that both sides must be held accountable for their respective responsibilities, regardless of whether governor’s rule or an emergency was imposed.

Calling for accountability of both PTI and those responsible for bringing it to power, Aimal Wali Khan said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should not be made to bear the consequences of further political experiments.

The province cannot be allowed to become a laboratory for further experiments, he said.
