Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) core and political committees hold a joint meeting to discuss the federal government’s possible move to impose an emergency or governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, party sources said.

According to sources, the meeting is discussing the evolving situation and possible responses to any action by the federal government. The party has reportedly agreed to resist any such move and consider all available constitutional and legal options to prevent it.

PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Junaid Akbar has directed party workers to reach Peshawar instead of Swabi, sources said. Provincial lawmakers have also been instructed to take emergency measures to bring workers to Peshawar.

During the meeting, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan briefed the core and political committees on his conversation with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the party’s demands. Sources said PTI had conveyed its demands to Fazlur Rehman in connection with the possible postponement of its long march.

Meanwhile, tensions reportedly surfaced between the party leadership and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi during the joint meeting.

According to sources, some party leaders held Afridi responsible for the difficulties facing PTI, alleging that he had failed to follow the leadership’s instructions.

Sources quoted the party leadership as telling the chief minister that his actions had contributed to the situation facing the party and its lawmakers, including members of the National and provincial assemblies.

Afridi, however, maintained that he stood firmly with the ideology of PTI founder Imran Khan and said he would go to the last extent in upholding the trust placed in him by the former prime minister.
