ISLAMABAD: Flour prices have increased sharply across Pakistan, with the price of a 20-kilogram bag rising by up to Rs400 in a single week, putting additional pressure on household budgets.
According to a local news channel report, a 20kg bag of flour is now selling for Rs3,400 in Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar following the latest price increases.
The price surge has also affected several other cities, including Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Sukkur and Hyderabad, while Lahore and Faisalabad have reported no change in prices.
City-Wise Flour Prices in Pakistan
According to the report, the latest prices of a 20kg bag of flour in different cities are as follows:
Karachi: Rs3,400
Islamabad: Rs3,400
Peshawar: Rs3,400
Rawalpindi: Rs3,333, following an increase of Rs347
Hyderabad: Rs3,200, following an increase of Rs200
Sialkot: Rs3,133, following an increase of Rs333
Sukkur: Rs3,060, following an increase of Rs300
Quetta: Rs3,030, following an increase of Rs70
Multan: Rs2,866, following an increase of Rs66
Lahore: Rs2,300, with no change reported
Faisalabad: Rs2,200, with no change reported
Flour Prices Rise by Up to Rs400 in One Week
The report indicates that the price of a 20kg flour bag increased by as much as Rs400 across the country over the past week.
Rawalpindi recorded an increase of Rs347, taking the price to Rs3,333, while Sialkot saw a rise of Rs333 to Rs3,133.
In Sukkur, flour became Rs300 more expensive, bringing the price of a 20kg bag to Rs3,060. Hyderabad recorded an increase of Rs200, taking the price to Rs3,200.
Meanwhile, prices in Quetta and Multan rose by Rs70 and Rs66, respectively.
