SWABI – Tension gripped District Swabi after reports of firing at the Hujra (guest house) of Member Provincial Assembly and former Provincial Minister Abdul Karim Tordher and alleged abduction of his brother and three gunmen late Tuesday night.
According to initial reports and sources, unknown armed persons opened fire at the Hujra of Abdul Karim Tordher late at night. The firing created panic in the area.Soon after the firing, reports emerged that the MPA’s brother Abdul Nasir and his three private gunmen were allegedly taken away by the unknown armed men from the Hujra.
Details are still unclear so far; the exact motive behind the firing and alleged abduction has not been established. Sources say that details about the abducted persons and the circumstances of the incident are still unclear. Police and concerned law enforcement agencies have reportedly started an investigation into the incident. The cause of the firing and the alleged kidnapping is being ascertained.
Abdul Karim Tordher is an MPA elected from Swabi district and is considered an influential political figure in the area. He has previously served as a provincial minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security has been tightened in the area after the incident, while further updates are awaited from the police.
His Hujra in Tordher is his political centre where jirgas and party meetings are held. Last night’s firing and alleged abduction of his brother Abdul Nasir and 3 gunmen are considered a serious security incident in Swabi.
