US President Donald Trump has announced the formation of a Super Intelligence Force (SIF) aimed at maintaining American leadership in artificial intelligence and coordinating the government’s efforts in the rapidly evolving field.
Trump made the announcement on Sunday, following a meeting last week with the heads of leading US artificial intelligence companies, amid growing calls for stronger safeguards and clear rules governing the development and use of AI technology.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the decision followed a “historic” White House agreement on super intelligence, under which leading technology companies reaffirmed their responsibilities to the American people.
According to Trump, the newly established task force will work to advance US government efforts to maintain the country’s global leadership in artificial intelligence while protecting the interests of the American public.
The task force will also coordinate engagement with consumers, religious organizations and other key institutions, while facilitating communication between the US government and major technology companies.
Trump said the Super Intelligence Task Force would be led by senior government officials and would report directly to the president and the White House chief of staff.
The announcement comes as the US government and technology industry face increasing pressure to establish effective safeguards and regulatory frameworks for increasingly powerful AI systems.
