ISLAMABAD: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest T20 player rankings, with Pakistan’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed seizing the number one position by dethroning Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan.
This marks the first time in his career that Abrar Ahmed has climbed to the top of the T20I bowling charts, leading Rashid by a single rating point. With this milestone, Abrar becomes the fifth Pakistani bowler in history to achieve the number one ranking in the format, following in the footsteps of legendary names like Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Shahid Afridi, and Imad Wasim.
In the T20I bowling ranks, Mohammad Nawaz of Pakistan has been able to retain his 8th slot. Sahibzada Farhan of Pakistan has also been able to hold on to his strong 3rd position in the T20I batting ranks.
On the other hand, the English captain Harry Brook made his way into the top 4 positions in the T20I batting rankings for the first time in his career, while continuing to dominate the Test batters’ ranking list as well.
Mark Wood Announces Retirement from International Cricket
Earlier, England fast bowler Mark Wood has announced his retirement from international cricket.
Announcing his decision, Wood said he believed it was the right time to step away from international cricket. He also reflected on the injuries he faced throughout his career, while describing representing England as an incredible experience.
Wood has decided to retire from all formats of international cricket. During his international career, he represented England in 38 Test matches, 70 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 38 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) also expressed its best wishes to Wood for the next chapter of his career following his decision to retire from international cricket.
