ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan has officially announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Nauman Mahmood, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), (Retired), as the first Secretary General of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement (MJDA).
According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Office of the Spokesperson), the newly appointed Secretary General will head the General Secretariat of the alliance, which is currently being established in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement represents a major collaborative framework, and Lieutenant General (R) Nauman Mahmood’s selection to lead its secretariat underscores Pakistan’s active role and high-level engagement within the alliance. Further details regarding the operationalization of the Riyadh-based secretariat and the broader scope of the MJDA are expected to be unveiled as the alliance progresses.
