PESHAWAR: The Sub-Committee of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s Standing Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education has directed necessary amendments in the law to permanently resolve the seniority issue of teachers of different cadres and to remove legal lacunae.
The meeting of the Sub-Committee was held on Wednesday at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat under the chairmanship of Committee Chairman Abdul Salam Afridi. The meeting considered the seniority issue of thousands of teachers belonging to different cadres, who were recruited in 2014, 2015 and 2018 and later regularized in 2018. During the meeting, the President of ATA presented the stance of the teachers before the committee.
On this occasion, the Director of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department suggested to the committee that if the law is amended to grant seniority to the said employees from 2014, the amended law should also clarify that they will not have the right to claim past financial benefits on this basis.
The Director of the Education Department further suggested that in case seniority is applied retrospectively, it should not affect promotions already granted to these teachers.
The committee directed that progress on necessary amendments to permanently resolve the seniority issue of teachers of the affected cadres and to remove the legal lacunae in this regard.
