SWABI: A police officer was killed when his cousin opened fire on him in the Kalu Khan area of Swabi on Thursday.
According to DPO Swabi Waqas Rafiq, the firing incident occurred in village Kalu Khan. As a result of the firing, Sub-Inspector Qamar Zaman Khan was killed on the spot. Police said the body of the deceased has been shifted to Kalu Khan Hospital.
A police team reached the crime scene immediately after the incident. The accused managed to escape after the firing. According to initial investigation, the incident was a result of a property dispute.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway. The deceased Sub-Inspector was posted in Special Branch Mardan. He was currently on a training course and had come home to Swabi on leave when the incident occurred.
DPO Swabi confirmed that the victim, SI Qamar Zaman Khan, was serving in Special Branch Mardan and was on leave in his native village, Kalu Khan. During the leave period, a long-standing property dispute with his cousin escalated, leading to the armed attack.
The accused opened fire at close range, killing the officer instantly. Police have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to arrest the absconding suspect.
