ISLAMABAD: The only newborn who survived the PIMS hospital fire that claimed the lives of 14 infants has died while undergoing treatment.

The baby girl, who was rescued by a nurse who put her own life at risk during the fire, could not survive, according to hospital officials.

The fire broke out at the Mother and Child Hospital of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Aug 26, killing 14 newborn babies.

The baby girl was safely evacuated from the hospital by a nurse during the incident and was subsequently admitted for treatment.

She later died while receiving medical care, leaving no survivors among the newborns affected by the fire.
