PESHAWAR: The federal government on Saturday approved security risk allowance for administrative officials and the police personnel of 26 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, declaring them as ‘hard areas’.
In this connection, the Establishment Division informed the KP chief secretary about the decision, declaring the 26 districts in six regions as “hard areas”. The allowance will be equal to 250 per cent of the basic pay and will take effect from July 1, 2026.
According to the decision, an official will stop receiving the allowance after being transferred from a designated hard area. The allowance will also not be paid to an official who has been suspended, posted as an officer on special duty (OSD) or sent for training.
The allowance will not be counted as part of pension or gratuity. The disrtict which administatative and police officials who would receive the 25 percent allowance include Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Charsadda, Mohmand, Nowshera, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, South Waziristan, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Bajaur and Chitral.
Officials serving in Swabi and the Hazara Division will not be entitled to the allowance. The decision comes amid continued security challenges in KP, where security forces and police have been carrying out counterterrorism operations in several districts.
The ongoing militant activity and the risks faced by police and other government officials in affected areas have increased the security burden on personnel working in these districts. The new allowance is aimed at providing additional financial support to officials serving in these difficult areas.
