KP Sets Up AI, Digital Institute to Modernize Education Sector

PESHAWAR: To modernize the education sector and expand access to quality learning, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched two initiatives focused on artificial intelligence, digital education and virtual learning.

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department has established what it describes as the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Institute to promote the use of modern technology and digitize the education system.

The seven-member institute will develop technical frameworks and guidelines and recommend systemic reforms aimed at replacing manual procedures within the education department. It will also work on developing modern digital applications to improve transparency and service delivery, while supporting the integration of AI and digital technologies into the education system.

In a related development, students in Khyber district can now attend virtual classes as the provincial government expands digital education facilities in the merged districts. The virtual education programme was launched at Sahibzada Abdul Qayum Khan School under the supervision of the district administration as part of the provincial government’s Good Governance Roadmap.

The programme connects students with qualified teachers through the Global Virtual School Hub in Peshawar, allowing them to attend online lessons delivered by teachers from different parts of the province. Students will also have access to updated course material and other digital learning resources.

The virtual classrooms have been equipped with modern technology and AI-based teaching systems to support students during lessons. Officials said the initiative aims to provide children in Khyber with learning facilities comparable to those available in major cities. It is also expected to broaden their educational opportunities and help prepare them for future academic and professional careers.

The district administration described the launch as an important step toward introducing modern digital education in the merged districts and improving access to quality learning. Together, the two initiatives reflect the provincial government’s efforts to use AI and digital technology to modernize education, improve service delivery and expand access to learning opportunities across KP.
