ALGIERS: Algeria has announced its decision to sever diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), citing the failure of efforts to maintain bilateral ties.
According to international media reports, Algeria’s state television announced that the country had decided to cut diplomatic relations with the UAE after all avenues for maintaining bilateral relations had been exhausted.
Algeria has accused the UAE of interfering in its domestic affairs as well as regional matters.
As part of the decision, Algeria has given the UAE ambassador 48 hours to leave the country, according to reports.

The development marks a major deterioration in relations between the two countries, which have faced growing tensions over the UAE’s alleged role in regional affairs.
Algerian President’s Criticism of UAE
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has frequently criticised the UAE in his speeches, at times describing it as a “microstate” that, according to him, is attempting to destabilise several countries in the region.
During a television interview in July this year, Tebboune, apparently referring to the UAE, said that “wherever they set foot, blood is spilled.”
He also criticised the UAE’s regional role, saying Algeria wanted the country to stay away so that there would be no bloodshed in Algeria.
At the time, Tebboune said diplomatic relations could have been severed much earlier if Algeria had not been trying to prevent further divisions in the Arab world.
