PESHAWAR: To equip women with practical skills and help them explore new sources of income, a three-month skills development programme for 41 women from Peshawar will start at KP Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (KP-TEVTA).
The training programme is being organised by Da Khwendo Kor with the support of Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and in collaboration with KP-TEVTA. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the organisations, including Dr Maryam Bibi, Chief Executive of Da Khwendo Kor, MPA Mehr Sultana and Qurat-ul-Ain, Chairperson of the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peshawar, besides KP-TEVTA directors and relevant officials.
The training will be conducted at the Centre of Excellence, GTTTC, KP-TEVTA, where the participating women will receive practical training in kitchen, gardening, textile designing and food technology. The programme is aimed at strengthening women’s livelihoods and improving their economic independence by equipping them with skills that can help them pursue self-employment, start small businesses and generate additional income.
Speaking at the ceremony, KP-TEVTA Managing Director Mian Abdul Qadir Shah highlighted the importance of providing women with technical and vocational skills that are aligned with the needs of the modern job market.
He said that market-oriented skills could play an important role in helping women secure decent employment, become self-employed and take advantage of available business opportunities. Mian Abdul Qadir Shah said KP-TEVTA would continue to encourage and support initiatives aimed at providing women with practical and quality technical training.
