ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received good news from the energy sector as Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, OGDC, announced a new oil and gas discovery from its Bobby Oil Field in Sanghar district, Sindh.

According to OGDC, the new development well “Bobby-11” has been successfully drilled and tested. The well is expected to produce around 1,000 barrels of crude oil per day along with 1 MMSCFD of natural gas.

The company stated that the Bobby Oil Field is 100% owned by OGDCL. The success of Bobby-11 has further strengthened confidence in the presence of extensive oil and gas reserves in the area. OGDCL officials said that subsurface data obtained from the earlier discovery at “Bobby Deep-1” played a key role in the successful drilling of Bobby-11.

That geological information helped the technical team to accurately target the reservoir and achieve this result. This discovery is being seen as an important step toward increasing Pakistan’s domestic oil and gas production.

Energy experts believe that boosting local output will help reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel and ease pressure on the national exchequer. The  announcement  comes at a time when Pakistan is actively working to tap its indigenous energy resources to address the ongoing energy shortfall and rising import bill.

OGDCL, being the country’s largest exploration and production company, has been focusing on aggressive drilling in existing fields as well as new exploratory areas across Sindh and Balochistan.
