PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has intensified its crackdown against electricity theft, with several arrests reported in different areas.
During an operation in Faqirabad, a PESCO team caught a suspected electricity thief, identified as Laiq Ahmed, son of Ahad Ali, red-handed while stealing electricity. The suspect was arrested and handed over to police, while a formal request has been submitted to the relevant police station for registration of a case.
According to PESCO officials, the suspect had allegedly been involved in electricity theft for a long period and already had Rs93,000 in outstanding dues. A Rs100,000 fine was imposed on him on account of electricity theft.
Officials said the suspect was taken into custody and legal proceedings were being initiated against him. PESCO authorities have directed field teams to accelerate operations against electricity theft and submit regular reports on their progress.
