NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Security forces killed 15 militants during an attempted infiltration from Afghanistan into Pakistan in the Ghulam Khan area of North Waziristan, according to security sources.
The sources said security forces launched an operation based on intelligence regarding an alleged attempt by a group of militants to cross the Afghanistan-Pakistan border and enter Pakistani territory.
According to the security sources, the operation resulted in the killing of all 15 members of the group involved in the alleged infiltration attempt.
A clearance operation is continuing in the area following the action, the sources said.
Ghulam Khan is considered a strategically important area in North Waziristan because of its proximity to the Afghanistan border. The area has previously been used by militant groups attempting to enter Pakistan, according to security officials.
Security sources said the operation demonstrates the security forces’ resolve to prevent militant infiltration and attempts to disrupt peace and security in the region.
