PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced plans to introduce an electric rickshaw scheme in the province following the launch of an electric bike initiative for women.
Addressing the 57th meeting of the provincial cabinet, Afridi said the government was introducing an EV bike scheme under which female students and working women would be provided electric bikes on merit. He said the first phase of the scheme would be launched soon.
“After electric bikes, an EV rickshaw scheme will also be introduced in the province,” the chief minister said, describing the initiative as an important step toward promoting a clean and greener environment.
Afridi also directed authorities to accelerate work on the electric bus scheme in divisional headquarters across the province. He said providing citizens with modern and environmentally friendly transport facilities was among the government’s priorities.
Moreover, the chief minister instructed the concerned officers to expedite the process of schemes that have been added to the Annual Development Program (ADP), keeping in view the importance of completing development schemes within their allotted deadlines.
It was further pointed out that the bureaucracy should come out of its traditional mold and that the public interest schemes must be pushed forth despite any unnecessary obstacles that may arise because of bureaucratic issues.
Moreover, during the cabinet meeting, Afridi discussed the situation regarding PTI’s founder Imran Khan. It is being reported that according to the ruling of the Supreme Court, the government was supposed to provide him with treatment from his private doctors at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.
The KP government, he said, was demanding implementation of judicial orders concerning the PTI founder.
Afridi said the provincial government would continue introducing measures focused on public facilitation, environmental protection and modern governance.
