ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Mohammad Malick has called for intervention by the country’s military leadership, alleging that bureaucratic influence and vested financial interests are shaping government policy decisions.

Malik alleged that an emergency meeting had been convened to remove the CEO of the Engineering Development Board (EDB) because the official had refused to accept pressure from the secretary over what he described as a flawed auto policy.
According to Malik, the policy could serve private interests worth millions of dollars annually. He alleged that the EDB chief’s opposition to the policy had prompted efforts to remove him from office.
The journalist questioned whether the prime minister was unable to act against the two senior bureaucrats he accused of supporting the situation or was simply indifferent to the matter.
Referring to Defence Minister Khawaja Asif’s remarks about a “hybrid system,” Malik argued that if such a system exists, Field Marshal Asim Munir should intervene to address what he described as the damage caused by influential figures within the bureaucracy.
