PESHAWAR: Awami National Party (ANP) Central President Senator Aimal Wali Khan has called for the immediate withdrawal of restrictions on the use, purchase and sale of urea fertiliser in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning that the move could further deepen the province’s agricultural and economic crisis.

In a statement issued on Saturday from Bacha Khan Markaz, the cnetral headquaters of the party, Aimal Wali rejected the restrictions, describing it an economic blow to farmers and a direct threat to the province’s agricultural economy.

He said urea was a basic requirement for agriculture and depriving millions of farmers of the fertiliser would worsen their financial difficulties at a time when KP was already facing serious economic challenges.

The ANP leader also questioned the decision to impose a blanket ban over concerns about the possible use of urea in explosives. He said the government should focus on preventing its illegal use rather than restricting urea for the entire farming community.

He warned that the province was already facing difficulties related to wheat and flour, and any further disruption in the availability of fertiliser could create additional problems for farmers and consumers in the coming months.

He also criticised the provincial government for what he described as its silence on the issue, urging it to immediately take up the matter with the federal government and seek a solution.

“The restrictions on the use, purchase and sale of urea fertiliser in the province should be lifted immediately,” he demanded, stressing that agriculture should not be pushed into another crisis.
