ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has been shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical assessment and treatment, under tight security.
The development comes after the Supreme Court directed authorities to transfer the incarcerated PTI founder to the private hospital following concerns over his health. The court had ordered that Khan be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours.
The transfer was carried out after arrangements for Khan’s movement to the hospital were completed, sources said.
A medical board is expected to assess Khan’s condition and oversee his treatment at the hospital.
The federal government had challenged the Supreme Court’s order seeking its modification, arguing that the former premier should instead be treated at a government hospital. However, the Supreme Court registrar’s office returned the government’s review petition on Thursday over objections related to incomplete paperwork.
