PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has sought details from the provincial Home Department regarding the nomination of police officers for the Presidential Awards, raising questions over the reduced number of nominations and the cases of eligible officers that were not forwarded.

According to sources, the provincial government has asked why the number of police officers nominated for the awards declined and why cases of all eligible officers were not sent forward for consideration.

Sources said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police had submitted cases of 47 police officers to the provincial government for the Presidential Awards. However, several of the cases are reportedly still pending with the provincial Home Department.

Of the 47 cases, 34 are said to remain with the Home Department, while only eight police officers ultimately received Presidential Awards.

The provincial government has sought details regarding the nominations, the progress of individual cases and the names eventually forwarded for consideration for the awards.

Officials also want to determine how many of the 47 cases submitted by the police were forwarded to the relevant authorities and how many officers were ultimately nominated for the Presidential Awards.

Police officers have called for greater transparency in the nomination process, stressing that the cases of all eligible officers should be evaluated fairly and strictly on merit.

The provincial government’s request for details is expected to provide further clarity on the status of the nominations and the reasons behind the reduced number of officers considered for the awards.
