PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to make rainwater harvesting systems mandatory in government buildings to prevent rainwater from going to waste and make it available for reuse.

According to official documents, all government departments have been directed to ensure the installation of systems for collecting and utilising rainwater at their respective buildings.

The Chief Secretary has instructed all concerned departments to strictly implement the decision. The departments have also been provided with the design, installation procedures, technical specifications and estimated costs for the rainwater harvesting systems.

The departments concerned have been directed to submit compliance reports on the installation of the systems to the Chief Secretary’s Office within one week.

The reports will subsequently be presented to the relevant authorities for further progress and monitoring of the initiative.
