PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced development projects worth more than Rs3 billion for the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department under the Annual Development Programme, aimed at modernising the tax system, strengthening anti-narcotics operations and expanding excise infrastructure in merged districts.
According to official documents, the projects comprise existing projects with an aggregate cost of Rs1.67 billion that have already been assigned funds for the present fiscal year.
The government has plans to create tax facilitation centres and offices in 30 districts of the province, with an allocation of Rs1.53 million for the project. The project is being taken in order to provide better facilities for taxpayers.
The geographic information system-based property survey scheme would involve GIS and direct property tax survey in Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Charsadda, Swat, Mansehra, Haripur and Peshawar. More than Rs 98.1 million will be released for the surveys.
The documents show that Rs82.343 million has been allocated for the purchase of modern equipment and scanners for the Narcotics Control Unit to improve enforcement capabilities.
A model warehouse with allied facilities will also be established, for which Rs3 million has been earmarked. The government has allocated Rs200 million for the establishment of a new Excise Police Station in Peshawar. In addition, Rs700 million has been reserved for the acquisition of land for the construction of excise police stations in priority districts.
For the merged districts of Kurram and Khyber, Rs23 million has been allocated for the establishment of Excise Police Stations and storage facilities. Officials said the projects are part of a broader strategy to digitise tax administration, improve revenue collection mechanisms and strengthen departmental infrastructure across the province.
